Cistercian Museum in the Mogiła district

Other museums

The museum is at the Cistercian Abbey in Mogiła, at the former abbot’s palace and priory. Mock-ups of former buildings, a reconstruction of a 12th-century stained-glass window and multimedia elements such as animations and videos come together to introduce the history of the Cistercian Order in Europe. The museum recreates the atmosphere experienced by the monks over the centuries. Extensive archaeological, construction and conservation works conducted over five years have led to the creation of the museum. The exhibition was launched before the 800th anniversary of the arrival of Cistercians at the former village of Mogiła, falling in 2022. The monks arrived in the area in the 13th century, and the abbey was founded by the Cracovian bishop Iwo Odrowąż in 1222.
