Although the bronze statue of the revolutionary leader stood in Nowa Huta for just 16 years, it left an indelible mark on the district’s history. There were unsuccessful attempts to blow up or tear down the statue, campaigns against it and myriad urban legends, all of which stir imaginations until today. The exhibition Roly-Poly. Statue of Lenin in Nowa Huta at the Nowa Huta Museum reveals the monument’s history and presents works by contemporary artists including Bronisław Chromy, Edward Dwurnik and Wojciech Fangor, inspired by images of communist heroes.
