We will keep our fingers crossed with Tobiasz Helgoland and Ms. Troodwood for the quick marriage of their children (Lottery for Husbands, or Fiancé No. 69). We will stand among the crowd cheering the toreadors, and when the squares in Seville are all empty, we will bid farewell to the stabbed Romani woman (Carmen). We will dance at Prince Orlofski’s ball (The Bat) and cry over Babylonian slaves (Nabucco) while hoping that the clever man will win over Adele’s heart (Count Ory).
These adventures are only some of the many attractions accompanying the two-month long 25th Kraków Opera Summer Festival. In line with the old tradition, the cultural events in Kraków will bring the arias to all kinds of venues, not just the stage at Lubicz 46. MuFo Rakowicka will host Opera Film, the kick-off meeting of a new series co-organised with the museum, the Carmina Burana cantata will be heard in the TVP Kraków Studio in Łęg, the Botanic Garden will be visited by the Countess Maritza, and Tosca will reign supreme at Wawel Castle.
The festival programme will be rounded off with the premiere of the ballet Carmen's Love Games, Ghost of the Opera series and the Red Violin concert featuring the Oscar-winning music from Le Violin Rouge. The solo part will be performed by Elizabeth Pitcairn, playing the 1721 Stradivarius violin known as the 'Red Mendelssohn', which inspired the creators of the film.
