Can found, useless objects or garbage washed ashore by the sea become works of art? Bogusław Bachorczyk employs such materials in his recent works. He arranges them in new, surprising combinations, merging natural and artificial elements.

Bachorczyk’s works employ a variety of different media: painting, photography, sculpture, and performance. He is an artist bricoleur – for many years he has been collecting various types of items that, as he puts it, intrigued him or appealed to him aesthetically. He experiments with, modifies, and looks for connections between things that don't seem to fit together. He searches through flea markets and – as in his latest project – seaside beaches. The artist invests objects that most people would consider waste with the status of works of art. He allows them to regain their “lost dignity”; he looks at them as potential future sculptures.

An important point of reference for the exhibition is the idea of upcycling, i.e. processing materials in such a way as to give them a new life and turn them into objects of greater value. Bogusław Bachorczyk's artistic strategy embraces current trends related to ecology and sustainable development.

Bachorczyk has worked at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts for many years, where he runs the 3rd Interdisciplinary Studio at the Faculty of Painting.

The exhibition is on view at the ICC medieval cellars. It features objects, sculptures, and video works.

Open Tue–Sun 11am–7pm. Tickets  PLN 5.
