In Good Form
The cinematography of our western neighbour is in great shape! The German Cinema Week is the perfect opportunity to explore myriad German productions. The event presents two films from this year’s Berlinale: Christian Petzold’s Undine – a contemporary take on the mythical elemental beings featuring Paula Beer awarded the Silver Bear – and Burhan Qurbani’s Berlin Alexanderplatz – a screen adaptation of the novel by Alfred Döblin. Christian Schwochow reaches for another classic volume of German literature in The German Lesson. Mariko Minoguchi explores time and its relativity in her My End. Your Beginning. Finally, Gipsy Queen by the Turkish filmmaker Hüseyin Tabak tells the story of a former Romani boxing champion fighting for her and her children’s future in contemporary Hamburg.
