György Kurtág, who is celebrating his 100th birthday this year, is one of the most outstanding contemporary composers. He is sometimes referred to as Bartók’s successor and the nestor of modernism, yet his pieces synthesise various trends in contemporary music, as this concert will highlight. We are going to listen to the dramatic and poignant Kafka-Fragmente for soprano and violin, juxtaposed with the intimate Tre pezzi for violin and piano and the miniatures from the Jatekók (Games) series, which has been in development since 1973 – initially as educational pieces, and later as a kind of composer’s musical diary. The works by Tomasz Sikorski and Zbigniew Bargielski will provide a Polish context for Kurtág’s works. This existential and sombre programme will be performed by soprano Dorota Nowak, violinist Anna Kwiatkowska, and pianists Martyna Włodarczyk and Martyna Zakrzewska.
The concert takes place in the frames of Capella Cracoviensis' festiwal Kraków 6 Weeks.
