Gisèle Vienne is known as an artist responsible for revolutionising the use of dolls and mannequins on stage. This brings her work closer to that of Tadeusz Kantor, whose legacy she readily acknowledges. Crowd remains one of the most famous productions by the French-Austrian director and choreographer. The artist depicts a group of fifteen young people, who meet at a music event, and the multifaceted piece based on dance focuses on the intimacy and relationships within the group. Etude on Crowd (Sketches of Crowd #8), a scaled-down rendition of that performance, came to be three years later, in 2020. It was directly inspired by the pandemic, which highlighted the acute feeling of loneliness and the longing for a sense of community. The three-person play will be showcased on the Cricoteka stage as part of the ‘French’ instalment of the Playing with Kantor project - – the September launchinauguration is dedicated to Gisèle Vienne. In addition to the performance, the event features a meeting with the artist (18.09). The remaining events in this edition of Playing with Kantor series will take place in November.
