We have grown accustomed to the sight of cornets and theorbo. The harpsichord and the viola da gamba no longer impress anyone, and the gut strings of the violin are like a daily occurrence. In the field of period instruments, however, the historical piano still remains something of a novelty. If you would like to immerse yourself in this clear, warm and intimate sound, why not start with a Summer Break with Historic Piano? The series will feature the instruments alongside strings (the Fortepiano Atelier Quartet), the flute (the Inverto Duo) and the violin (the Fortepiano Atelier Duet), as well as a solo performance – albeit for four hands (Katarzyna Drogosz and Geoffrey Govier). The programmes – ranging from Bach, through Schubert and Schumann, to Wieniawski – will also feature composers who remain obscure today, including Józef Władysław Krogulski, Sophie Dussek and Leopoldine Blahetka.
