An imposing structure with a tower that is not coincidentally reminiscent of that of St. Mary’s Basilica in Kraków, an interior resembling a Gothic cathedral, a carved oak pulpit, a tabernacle designed by Jan Sas-Zubrzycki (who designed the entire church), as well as stunning chandeliers: one crystal and two brass. In addition, organ recitals on an instrument over 100 years old, crafted by the Warsaw-based firm of Adolf Antoni Homan; arias from operas and sacred works ranging from Purcell and Pergolesi to Verdi and Brahms; Schubert’s Ave Maria and Chopin’s Grande Valse Brillante for string quintet, a touch of the Baroque (Bach, Biber, violin and cello), as well as songs and Marian pieces arranged for a brass band – specifically, a highlander brass band. The Podgórze Summer Concerts will once again fill this neo-Gothic gem: The Church of Józefa On Sunday afternoons during the summer holidays, the Podgórze Square will host performances by, among others, organists Krzysztof Musiał, Jakub Woszczalski, Anna Przybysz and Filip Konieczny, sopranos Wiktoria Oleksińska-Prajzner and Patrycja Wiatr, cellists Paweł Czarakcziew and Karina Krychun, the Art Qvintet ensemble, and the Highlander Brass Band from Skomielna Czarna and Bogdanówka.
