It has now become a tradition – in the summer, the Krakow Philharmonic leaves its building on Zwierzyniecka Street and performs amidst the greenery, and every Sunday its artists treat us to performances of music that remains thoroughly classical, albeit in a slightly lighter holiday style.
The series opens in July with a programme for eight voices entitled The Best of The King’s Singers & Pentatonix – ranging from Greensleeves and gospel to Daft Punk. The Polish Film Music vol. 2 concerts will take us on a musical journey featuring the unforgettable compositions of Jerzy Matuszkiewicz, Andrzej Kurylewicz and Henryk Kuźniak, performed by the Brass Riders ensemble on three trombones and one tuba, as well as the Musical Summer Cinema’event featuring soundtracks from Pulp Fiction, Gladiator, Grease, La La Land and the Agent 007 series. At the end of the month, however, we will immerse ourselves In the Balkan Sun with the Cellostrada Quintet.
We will welcome August with Landscapes of the Imagination performed on guitar and marimba. Next, the Cracow Golden Quintet will present a program themed Around Dance and Intrigues; we will return to the screen with Summer Sounds of Cinema arranged for cello quartet, we send Musical Postcards from Around the World from our holiday travels; and finally, to bid farewell to summer, we will succumb to the Charm of Interwar Songs.
Music will be performed in the garden of the Austrian Consulate-General (5 July), in the Theatre Hall of the Dr J. Babiński Clinical Hospital (12 and 19 July), and for the final concert of July and all August concerts, we will move to the Victoria Glasshouse at the Jagiellonian University Botanical Garden.
