‘Clean air is a right we all have, and more and more people are fighting to ensure it is respected,’ says the narrator of Until the Last Breath (Do ostatniego oddechu) by Ewa Ewart, which will open this year’s Green Film Festival. This is no coincidence – Air is the theme of this year’s event; however, this is hardly the only important topic that the festival screenings are going to explore. We are going to watch films about microplastics in our bodies (Plastic People, directed by Ben Addelman, Ziya Tong), the fate of single-use items (Ordures by Benjamin Nuel), the ongoing deforestation (Transamazonia by Pia Marais) and unethical methods of sourcing raw materials (Silver by Natalia Koniarz). The audiences can expect nearly 100 film screenings, including 58 competition entries from around the world vying for the Grand Prix for the festival’s best entry and other awards. The programme features meetings with filmmakers, environmental workshops and scientific stand-up talks delivered by experts on selected nature and climate topics. The event also offers screenings of family-friendly films focusing on environmental issues, including Ozi: Voice of the Forest, Latte and the Magic Waterstone, Angelo dans la forêt mystérieuse, The Lorax and Katak The Brave Beluga.
