‘I could not stop. I read it all the time - while eating, at the theatre, on the street,’ – this is how Hector Berlioz recalled his first encounter with Goethe’s Faust. It took the composer nearly 20 years to translate this admiration into music. True to his reputation as enfant terrible of French Romanticism, he created an innovative score, part opera and part cantata, brimming with the rich harmonies and extraordinary timbres, which were his claim to fame. The Kraków Philharmonic brings its artistic season to a close with this powerful dramatic legend (légende dramatique) – the performance will feature the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra, Choir, Boys’ and Girls’ Choir, and Ukrainian Children’s Choir. The title role will be performed by the young tenor Łukasz Załęski - he will be tempted by Mephistopheles – the baritone Michał Partyka, and the role of Marguerite will be played by the mezzo-soprano Magdalena Pluta.
