A festival of harpsichords, violas, lutes, Baroque violins and oboes – all playing the scores by Johann Sebastian Bach during concerts by professors and students of the Kraków Academy of Music. The highlight of the opening will be the Tönet, ihr Pauken cantata, and the following days will be filled with Bach’s sonatas and violin concertos. Ensembles characteristic of the Baroque period made up of instruments from a single family will be represented by Kraków Viol Consort and Kraków Recorder Consort – the latter ensemble will showcase pieces by John Dowland on the 400th birthday of the English late Renaissance composer. During the finale, coinciding exactly with the 341st birthday of the festival’s patron, we will listen to the performance by the founder of Bach Days, the eminent Polish harpsichordist Prof. Elżbieta Stefańska.
