The impermanence of the world, the fragility of existence, transience. Only nature remains unshaken, unchanging in its constant cycle: after autumn's decline and winter's torpor, spring will return, ensuring the world's permanence, and then summer will blossom, only to give way to autumn once again. Helpless man is left to seek oblivion... This is a brief summary of the ideological program of Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, a work the composer himself considered most personal. The Kraków Philharmonic's symphony concert program will be complemented by Ludwig van Beethoven's serene Symphony No. 8, which its creator affectionately called "my little symphony in F major".
