Kuzmir is the Yiddish name for the Kraków district of Kazimierz. This time, the festival organisers want to recall the pre-war Kazimierz – a place of normal life, bustling streets and schools.
This means there will be returns, although the recently deceased legendary Benzion Miller will no longer attend the Cantors' concert, his disciples and son Shimmy Miller will appear. Frank London, whom we supported from afar in his illness just a year ago, will return to us and present two projects: Chronika as Frank London's Klezmer Brass Allstars at the Tempel Synagogue (this year also marks the return of the synagogue as a JCF concert venue) and the intimate, Sabbath-themed In the City of God. In turn, Middle Eastern sounds will reign during a performance by Dudu Tassa, Jonny Greenwood and their guest musicians.
Some of the well-known walks will recall the characters of the most famous rabbis from Kazimierz. We will also mention the author of popular pre-war songs Nachum Sternheim, a somewhat forgotten bard from Rzeszów (Nachum band).
Workshops, lectures, concerts, meetings – the festival events will encompass almost the entire space of Kraków's Jewish quarter, with the centre located under a tent at Józefa Street, for a period of five days.
