Set out for 88 white and black keys, the Pianophony piano festival has one goal: to show the different facets of the piano. From Domenico Scarlatti’s sonatas written when the instrument was still a technical novelty, to the most recent works; from Fanny Mendelssohn, composing in the shadow of her famous brother (whose works will be played by Marcin Koziak), to her 20th-century female colleagues, equally often overlooked in the history of music (Asher Ian Armstrong will bring them out of oblivion). We will listen to concerts in memory of Henryk Neuhaus, a valued interpreter of Chopin’s and Beethoven’s works, a teacher of such great artists as Sviatoslav Richter, and Stefan Wojtas, who was associated with the Academy of Music in Kraków for many years. The Pianophony programme will be complemented by tangos straight from Buenos Aires, performed by Argentinian pianist Adrian Enriquez.
