The Szymanowski / Poland / World Festival, which takes place in the autumn, has already taken root in the Kraków Philharmonic’s calendar. The same can be said about its spring prologue – this year it pays tribute to Krzysztof Penderecki and Karol Szymanowski on the anniversary of both composers’ deaths, which falls exactly on 29 March (they died in 2020 and 1937, respectively). The figure and output of Poland’s greatest composer of the second half of the 20th century will be evoked by The Awakening of Jacob – a story of the Old Testament patriarch’s dream arranged for a large ensemble of classical instruments and 12 ocarinas. And the patron of the Kraków Philharmonic will be remembered by its Orchestra and Choir under the baton of Andrzej Borejko through Stabat Mater (sung by Natalia Rubiś and Eva Vogel, among others). The repertoire of the festival prologue will be rounded off with Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 in D major.
