On 4 July 1915, an unusual meeting took place in the middle of the bridge over the Vistula (today’s Powstańców Śląskich Bridge) that had been opened two and a half years earlier. On that day, the Mayor of Kraków Juliusz Leo and the Mayor of Podgórze Franciszek Maryewski shook hands here. This symbolic act of uniting the two cities closed the complicated process of formation of Greater Kraków that had taken more than five years. The exhibition Separately but Together. On the 110th Anniversary of the Uniting of Podgórze and Kraków 1915-2025 presented in the Podgórze Museum provides a new perspective on the co-existence of the two cities (from the establishment of the city of Podgórze in 1784 until 1915).
