“Only a musician is able to stop time with a sound, but only a brilliant musician is able to stop time with the absence of sound – with silence. One of the Evangelists says: ‘In the beginning was the word.’ Oh no! In the beginning, there was silence,” declares Mateusz Zubik, the artistic director of the SILENCE Music Festival, announcing star recitals by pianoforte player Tobias Koch and violinist Jorge Jiménez, the world premiere of Piotr Peszat’s piece for pharmaceutical utensils or a jazz encounter with Margaux und die BANDiten. And the clou of the programme: a performance of (A)INSOMNIA for sleep, pink meringues, artificial intelligence, Goldberg Variations and two pianos, although only one instrument (the one in Kraków's Kijów Cinema) will be played by musicians – including Marek Szlezer, Nina Gurol, Guillermo Rodriguez, Eligiusz Skoczylas and Radosław Goździkowski – and the other (the one at Bach’s tomb in the St Thomas’ Church in Leipzig) will perform the same music as the first one without a pianist in real time thanks to modern technology. All of this makes up one of the most original Polish classical music festivals, which combines non-standard artistic activities with the unpretentious and authentic state of being together in listening to music.
