Just as Karol Szymanowski continuously sought his place in life, he surprised listeners with stylistic change new ideas in his music. He was a post-romanticist, an impressionist and an expressionist (at the same time!), and finally a folklorist – he was all of these, although each at a different time. The programme of the Szymanowski / Poland / World Festival, with which the Kraków Philharmonic opens the new artistic season, testifies to the richness of his styles and inspirations. It includes the Concert Overture in E major – the first orchestral work by a young artist fascinated by Richard Strauss, Masques – a triptych with complicated atonal harmony and dense texture (in an orchestral arrangement by Jan Krenz) and Harnasie, which originates from Podhale (in an arrangement for... accordion duo!). The context for the Polish composer's oeuvre will be provided by works by his contemporaries and those drawing on his heritage (Mahler, Martinů and Stravinsky as well as Młynarski and Bacewicz). The festival guests include soloists: violinist Bomsori Kim, pianists Marek Kozák and Federico Colli, the accordion duo Zimka & Ochwat, as well as the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra and the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc.
