Krakow ghetto was liquidated on March 13th and 14th, 1943. These dates symbolically marked also the end of Jewish life in our city. But it has been reborn in the past years and now the March does not only commemorate murdered pre-war Jewish community but also in a very clear way shows victory of life over death. This year March starts at noon on Sunday, March 17th.
We will meet as every year at noon at the Ghetto Heroes’ Square in Krakow’s Podgórze – in the very center of the former ghetto. From there we will walk towards a memorial on the area of former KL Plaszow. For many of Krakow Jews that was a way to death.
Every year few hundreds of Cracovians participate in March of Remembrance. But year by year, more and more guests from abroad comes to participate in the March – among them there is a growing group of Cracovians living now in Israel and their descendants.
The March is held under the patronage of Jacek Majchrowski, Mayor of Krakow and is financed by the Mayor Office.
