In the Master’s Footsteps
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the passing of the guitarist Jarek Śmietana, the acclaimed leader of groups including Extra Ball and Sounds. His career abounded with numerous other projects and activities: Śmietana played with some of Poland’s finest musicians, and felt equally at home performing with international virtuosos. The biennial International Jarek Śmietana Jazz Guitar Competition was founded to commemorate and celebrate his legacy. In October, the Golden Hall of the Kraków Philharmonic resounds with 12 instrumentalists selected through a competition. The jury comprising Peter Bernstein, Romain Pilon, Marek Napiórkowski, Karol Ferfecki and Witold Wnuk selects winners who will perform alongside special guests during the finale concert.
