Karol Szymanowski’s life included elements typical of that of a Polish intellectual living at the turn of the 20th century: growing up at a country estate, a solid education first at home and then at several academies and universities, extensive travel around Europe including obligatory trips to Italy, and many meetings with famous personalities of the era. But what sets him apart from thousands of others is his extraordinary musical talent, making Szymanowski – alongside Fryderyk Chopin – one of the most important Polish composers of all time.
His music resounds regularly in concert halls and is especially appreciated during the festival Szymanowski/Poland/World organised by the Kraków Philharmonic to commemorate its patron. in its foutyh instalment, the stage welcomes among the others the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester under the baton of Jurek Dybał, pianists Kate Liu and Piotr Sałajczyk, flutist Łukasz Długosz, the Polish Cello Quartet and conductor Paul Goodwin. The programme of the festival emphasizes also important musical anniversaries: the 90th birth anniversary of Krzysztof Penderecki and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, as well as the 80th birth jubilee of Krzysztof Meyer.
