Gioacchino Rossini's The Barber of Seville is the opera buffa, considered to be the unsurpassed pattern of the genre. It is also the composer's most known and loved work, consisting of beautiful music, a great script and "inexhaustible resources of theatrical humor," as Piotr Kamiński writes in the book A Thousand and One Opera.
Direction of the performance is a work of outstanding thetre and film actor, director and teacher Jerzy Stuhr. This lover of Italy, the local culture and art, had his directorial debut in the musical theater on the Kraków stage. His Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti enjoys unflagging popularity to this day. This time, his and musical director Tomasz Tokarczyk's workshop again received a comic opera - The Barber of Seville, which is a display of both composing mastery and wit. It is also a work that is teeming with famous musical themes and "hits" of the whole genre.
