What Would Kmicic Say?
It’s the most enthralling visit from Sweden since the mid-17th century. The links between Sabaton and Poland, and Poland and Sabaton, are powerful and special. They were welcomed by a Polish minister, they’ve worked with a descendant of a soldier who led the battle of Wizno, and they filmed a video in Warsaw starring the acclaimed Swedish actor Peter Stormare (Fargo) and Mateusz Damięcki. They are returning as part of The Last Tour, but fear not – it’s unlikely to be their final visit to Poland. The name actually recalls the title of the group’s latest album, The Last Stand.
The musicians have frequently touched on topics from Poland’s history, and on their 2016 album they sing about the battle of Vienna – more specifically about the attack by the hussars. On 3 March, the Scandinavians will be supported by the legendary Accept from Germany. Due to popular demand, the event has been moved from the Wisła sports hall to Tauron Arena Kraków
PS. Fans of Sienkiewicz’s The Deluge are probably waiting for Sabaton to record a track about the defence of Częstochowa… But that’s another story. (Artur Jackowski, "Karnet" monthly)
