On the first weekend of June (3 and 4 June), the protagonists of these unique, fascinating festivities fly, ride, dance, celebrate, entertain and perhaps even scare us a little. The 22 Great Dragon Parade, organised by Teatr Groteska, is almost upon us!
“Past Parades have had such a wide range of mottoes, this year we decided to give our Dragon Experts a free hand. We hope the 22 Great Dragon Parade is written in Grand Dragon History Books as an unforgettable event. We hope the Great Flight launches the latest chapter in the history of the dragon kingdom!” promise the organisers of the Great Dragon Parade.
Tradition has it that dragons take over Kraków for the entire weekend. The Dragon Family Picnic spreads out on the Vistula Boulevards by the Dragon’s Den. Visitors can expect dragon-themed fun and games, competitions and other attraction in the organisers’ marquees.
On Saturday evening, the stretch of the Vistula by Wawel Hill launches a breathtaking outdoor spectacle featuring pyrotechnic displays, dazzling light and laser shows, gigantic water curtains and beautiful music. The greatest attraction will be flying dragons, animated from riverboats and barges by actors from Teatr Groteska. As in recent years, the spectacle will follow an environmentally-friendly formula.
During the traditional Great Dragon Parade on Sunday, over 30 beasts strut from Grodzka Street to the Rynek Główny. Many will compete for the title of Most Beautiful.
The Great Dragon Parade has been hosted by Teatr Groteska since 2000, founded by the theatre’s director Adolf Weltschek. The parade is an important event on Kraków’s cultural map, with crowds of locals joined by thousands of dragon lovers from throughout Poland, Europe and the world. Join us in Kraków!
