As a special 20th anniversary Unsound treat, we’ve asked Jigoku – aka Lovely Jon and Cherrystones – to return to the festival to curate one of their legendary all-night movie marathons.
The result is what they describe as ‘an eternal, psyched out interconnected cine-bubble via an astonishing array of off kilter, bizarre, out-there features and shorts guaranteed to blow minds and melt eyeballs. The cinema will become your inner displacement from the “real world”’.
Dug up from the past, the program includes Canadian animated short Hunger (dir. Peter Foldes, 1974), French drugged-out time travel feature Hu Man (dir. Jerome Laperrousaz, 1975), horror feature The Erotic Circus (dir. Henri Pachard, 1969), Brian de Palma’s early short Woton’s Wake (1963) and hyper-demented guerilla film Split (dir. Chris Shaw, 1989) – which Jigoku suggest was a huge influence on the Matrix series.
All films are in English language or with English subtitles.
