Exercise means a healthy body, while communing with the arts means a healthy mind. That’s the motto of the World Opera Day, celebrated for the fourth time on 25 October – the birthday of Georges Bizet and Johann Strauss II. The celebrations in Kraków will be held over a few days, as the autumn instalment of the Opera Rara Kraków festival organised by Capella Cracoviensis. The programme shows that opera can be found everywhere and it’s inside all of us. Events include Bach Goes Opera (a stage adaptation of secular cantatas, or drammi per musica directed by Paweł Świątek), a recital by the male soprano Samuel Mariño, a concert version of Dido and Aeneas featuring a choir bringing together professional and amateur singers, and three requiems (Biber, Brahms and Mozart) under the joint banner Opera Sacra.
