Chloé Milos Azzopardi’s work sits at the intersection between Documentary and Poetic Photography. Her images collect moments of surreal intimacy, fragments of reality that happen in her day-to-day life and that she minutely captures and transforms, making them her own. Her series are generally comprised of photographs that weave subtle connections with each other, creating complex ecosystems made up of memories, sensations, emotions, and experiences, lived or imagined.
On the occasion of the 20th edition of the Krakow Photomonth festival and her participation in the ShowOFF Section, the artist has conceived a project in which she has worked with a selection of images from her series Les formes qu’illes habitent en temps de crise (2021). However, being sensitive to the current Central-European geopolitical context, instead of making a traditional exhibition, she has decided to carry out a performative action in which photography will not be the end in itself, but rather a means to convey a more open and inclusive project. Through it, she proposes to initiate conversations with the city’s inhabitants and bystanders that, predictably, will end in the exchange of her images in poster format for personal experiences or objects of those who want to take part in the project.
The Exchange #2 is based on a previous experience initiated by Chloé Milos Azzopardi in a small market in Shanghai, where she exchanged small-format images shot by her for various objects belonging to the users of the space. In this new and more complex version of the project, which will take place between the streets of Krakow and Piana Gallery, the artist has designed a device halfway between an outdoor exhibition display and a simple vehicle, which will allow her to move around different areas of the city and interact with different types of publics. The result of these exchanges will be installed every night, during the five days that this performative action will last, in the Piana exhibition space, and will remain on view for the duration of the month-long exhibition.

Chloé Milos Azzopardi (b. 1994, Paris) is a French artist. Based in the suburbs of Paris she works on long-term projects mixing installation, performance, and photography. Her research focuses on the representation of mental health, interspecies relationships, and the construction of post-Anthropocene imaginaries. Her work has been published in numerous magazines and shown in Europe and China.
