“Here are seen huge serpents, ten paces in length, and ten spans in the girt of the body. He jaws are wide enough to swallow a man, the teeth are large and sharp, and their whole appearance is so formidable, that neither man, nor any kind of animal, can approach them without terror,” wrote Marco Polo about terrifying creatures he encountered on his journey to China. His dragons don’t sound too friendly, do they? Perhaps the great explorer just lacked a bit of imagination – here in Kraków we have long known that dragons are beautiful and special! We’ll see for ourselves during the Great Dragon Parade, organised by Groteska Theatre. Marco Polo’s incredible maritime and land adventures of the 13th century are bound to inspire the imagination of the constructors vying for the prize for best monster. On the evening of Saturday 4 June, we will witness a spectacular show with mighty dragons flocking from all corners of the world to the bend in the Vistula. On 5 June, a colourful pageant walks through the streets of Old Town, and the Family Picnic lasts throughout the weekend. Good fun guaranteed for everyone!
