The exhibition of artworks by Kengo Kuma – the most distinctive Japanese architect working today, intertwining Japanese traditions with state-of-the-art technologies and building materials – is a continuation of the presentation of contemporary architecture at the Manggha Museum.
The exhibition presents a selection of Kengo Kuma’s latest experimental designs, beautifully illustrating his understanding of architecture. His designs are user-friendly, inspired by nature and local environments, and aim to curb any tendencies of buildings looming over their surroundings.
The exhibition also presents Cloud – an abstract timber installation designed by Kengo Kuma’s studio in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts at the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski University in Kraków, supported by the Association for Architectural Education, Andrzej Wajda and Krystyna Zachwatowicz’s Kyoto-Kraków Foundation and Krzysztof Ingarden.
Cloud is a composition using two types of identical elements connected at 45 degrees to one another. It combines traditional architectural joints from Poland and Japan, in particular those connecting wood beams using the dovetail joint.
