5 days with Carpathian and low Poland music – from Moldva through Transylvania, Hucul region and Podkarpacie region and futher north to Radom and Kujawy regions. Dances, singing, meetings along Vistula river from capitol of Malopolska to capitol of Pomerania. We connect countries, cities, and mosf of all people. Dances don’t know borders, they help to communicate without words. The Csángó music due to its geographical location and rich history consists of Balcan, Jewish, Gypsy and even Polish melodies. Welcome to Poland for II Csángó Festival.

In Poland we can witness the sparkling nightlife of the gatherings of some revival folk-music groups. The inspiration for city people came from Hungary where the dance house (táncház) movement started long before Poland.  Our wish is to continue building relationships with/among traditional cultures sympathizers who know by experience its greatness, fun and relaxation, explosiveness - says Guylai Farkas, the Szépszerével band leader, and also to show this atmosphere to newcomers, bystanders, -passers, visitors - so that they could have the same possibility that we had, when we got swept in by this cultural beauty.

The Szépszerével band plays "Csángó" – energetic trans Hungarian folk music from "Moldva" and "Gyimes", which lie on both sides of the East-Carpathian Mountains. Gyulai Farkas plays the violin, flutes and the "kaval", Sámsondi Gergely plays the koboz, violin and cymbals. They frequently operate together with friends. Musicians live in Budapest (Hungary), but learned the music and customs mainly from old village people in "Erdély" (Transylvania). Since 2012 they have been organising the dance house (táncház) on Gellert Hill in Budapest. They practice the oldest possible type of folk music. Musicians switch instruments with each other and propagate traditional tuning, melodies, music scale, length of dance songs, their common speed, also without sudden boosts and we prefer natural atmosphere with no fluorescent or LED lights to ensure health and peace of heart. The band teaches dances, singing which they play and also their songs with their lyrics so people can join the singing while they dance. Dances are usually in a circle so don’t worry if you don’t have a partner. Since a couple of years Szépszerével is visiting Poland and thanks to this regular activity we organize the secund edition of the Festival – explains Joanna Mieszkowicz, the main organizer of Csángó in Poland Festival, privately a fan of Csángó dances for almost 20 years.

Everyday programme consists of 2-hour dance workshop with Szépszerével and 4-hour dance party.

In Krakow we will guest the Ozimkowicz’s Band. The band was born on January 3, 2020 during a dance-party in the Traditional Music Embassy (Ambasada Muzyki Tradycyjnej, Warsaw). The band is named after Jan Ozimkowicz - the 17th-century goldsmith and translator of the Persian language, who lived in Jarosław (town in subcarpathian Poland). Members come from Przemyśl (Konrad Ozimek - violin) and Jarosław (Paweł Iwan - hammered dulcimer, vocal, Anna Iwan - bass, vocals) and focus on music, songs, dances and alcohol from their homeland region, inspired by traditional musicians, mainly Władysław Pirog and Wojciech Pilch from Słonne. The event will be held in Strefa club run by Stowarzyszenie Rozstaje / Crossroads Assosiaction. Joanna and Jan Słowiński, the founders, started The Krakow Dance House in 1997 and for more than 24 years organize the EtnoKraków/Rozstaje Festival.

Olena Yeremenko will be a special guest in Gdańsk. Olena Yeremenko was born in Ukraine, in an artistic family nurturing for decades musical and theatrical heritage. She started playing violin at the age of four quickly revealing great talent. She graduated music schools in Kirovohrad and then the conservatory in Lviv. After studies she turned her interest into European traditional music, especially  Central and East European tunes. She takes part in artistic projects in the whole Europe. Olena will be supported by musicants from Trójwiejska Association.

Trójwiejska Assotiation was founded officialy in 2012. It arised from unformal group Trójwiejska working in Tricity area since 2004-2005. Trójwiejska focusing on polish traditions, especially musical, but not ony of course. Most often they are visiting Kurpie, Kaszuby and Kociewie regions but they are open for other directions and horizons. Assotiation is formed by the people from distinct environments, what leads them to very interesting and not obvious experimental projects. One of the most greatest work of them is facsimile edition of "Śpiewnik Pelpliński" (Pelplin's Songbook) in 2015 (more than 100 years after the last edition). Co-creators of nationwide Akademia Kolberga Project (Kolberg's Academy), within Kurpiowska Szkoła Tradycji (School of Tradition in Kurpie) created under their guardianship (2014-2020). They were as well co-workers of Forum Muzyki Tradycyjnej (Tarditional Music's Forum) actions and works. Friday evening, November the 5th, we will spend in   venue of Pomorski Inkubator Kultury, where the Gdańsk band Od 100dni has its seat.

The “n obrotów” group will host the meetings, and the related bands (agregandado, skrzypkowie dzielni) will perform Polish music in Toruń. "n obrotów" group are enthusiasts of traditional dances, often very spinning. They not only dance, but also make music. They lead dance parties called 'potańc' or 'potańcówka' regularly in Toruń, which are open to all dance enthusiasts. The group's activities are centered around Europe's music (esp. Kujawy and Kurpie in Poland, scandinavian dance Polska) and dance traditions. They draw from the musical patterns worked out by generations of our grandparents and great grandparents to create in their environment a valuable kind of community in which and dance serve people's encounters. And they reach for the roots in search of eternal, eminent and refined beauty.

We warmly welcome you to support with a ‘cegiełka’/little donation starting from 10 or 20 zloties/ dedicated to Polish and Hungarian dance house activities J

*** The Festival is organized in the Green Events standard (created by Aeris Futuro Foundation) – we try to minimize the negative impact on natural environment by: travelling by trains instead of planes; eliminating plastic and meat diet; bands play unplugged; we suport local communities :) ***
