Mega Hits!
From canonical science fiction novels to technological innovations changing our daily lives, the Megabit Bomb Festival dedicated to Stanisław Lem is filled to the brim with events for avid readers and fans of state-of-the-art technologies. Held under the banner “Looking to the Future”, the festival marks the end of the Year of Stanisław Lem celebrating the centenary of the author’s birth. Between 10 and 14 September we meet at venues including the Potocki Palace, ICE Kraków Congress Centre and the Wyspiański Pavilion. The launch will feature a recording commemorating Lem streamed from the International Space Station accompanied by a performance of The Return from Stars composed by the Polish-Canadian musician Norbert Palej, followed by Audioteka’s superproduction of the same title performed by Krzysztof Zawadzki, Zygmunt Józefczak, Radosław Krzyżowski, Łukasz Szczepanowski and Magdalena Koleśnik.
Other festival evenings will resound with concerts by the jazz ensemble EABS from Wrocław and the RGG trio feat. Robert Więckiewicz as narrator, and the spectacle Lem vs. P.K. Dick at the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre. During the day we’ll take part in workshops in technological innovations such as robotics and Mars rovers, futuristic Polish language lessons, meetings with authors at launches of books about Stanisław Lem and lectures and debates exploring literary themes and current visions of the future. Planty Park features events at five locations, including by the Barbican, where we’ll go on a journey through styles and traditions of book illustration from all over the globe at the exhibition Global Vision dedicated to covers of Polish and international editions of the most widely translated Polish author. Best of all, after all the festival excitement we’ll be more than ready to reach for our Lem favourites! (Anna Mazur)
