What links Stanisław Moniuszko and Gioacchino Rossini? The Polish composer wrote a personal dedication on a score of his Litany No. 3 in E minor for the master of bel canto, who was captivated by Moniuszko’s talent.
The great composers are celebrated during the inaugural Royal Opera Festival. On 21 June, the Franciscan Church presents a concert of Moniuszko’s religious works, forming a part of the celebrations of the bicentenary of the composer’s birth. On 30 June, the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre presents Tancredi, Rossini’s first opera which catapulted him to fame and which premiered in Poland in 1818. The performance is directed by Jochen Schönleber, and the production stars the mezzo-soprano Antonella Colaianni in the title role.
