Jazz Circle of Life

Any time a great artist leaves the scene for the last time, we feel sadness accompanied by a belief that art abhors a vacuum. This year’s 42nd Jazz Juniors festival (29 November – 2 December) once again lets young musicians spread their wings while also celebrating those who have inspired them. The programme is split into three main sections: competition, festival and showcase. Reviews of young talents are held at ICE Kraków on 29 and 30 November. On 1 December, the venue welcomes winners of the competition and (from 29 November) guest stars: Marcin Wasilewski Trio, Jun Xiao Quintet and Wójciński/Szmańda Quartet. Premiere showcases resound at Piec Art. During the four festival days, the club hosts Tomasz Chyła Quintet, Vibe Quartet, Quantum Trio and Weezdob Collective. The festival closes with the concert Tribute to Tomasz Stańko, with saxophonist Adam Pierończyk paying homage to the late great virtuoso of the trumpet. He is joined at the ICE Kraków Congress Centre by artists including trumpeter Avishai Cohen and percussionist Jeff “Tain” Watts. (Bartosz Suchecki, „Karnet”)
